You can build relationships across the Linux Foundation ecosystem, exchange experience with fellow committee members, and turn that learning into guidance other practitioners can use.
For contributors looking to broaden their impact in 2027, the role offers opportunities to:
- Develop your approach to AI governance with peers. Participate in discussions with fellow Steering Committee members about how OSPO skills in open source policy, licensing, contribution review, provenance, and community engagement apply to AI-assisted development and agentic workflows. Bring organizational challenges into those conversations and take practical lessons back to your team.
- Build relationships across the Linux Foundation ecosystem. Work with community and project leaders across OpenSSF, AAIF, PyTorch, OpenChain, CNCF, and related ecosystems. Learn from people developing open standards, specifications, conformance approaches, and agentic infrastructure, and bring OSPO adoption and governance needs into the discussion.
- Share your experience at community and industry events. Opportunities may include invitations to TODO Steering Committee meetings held alongside the Linux Foundation Member Summit, or participation in TODO panels and discussions at major Linux Foundation events, depending on the program and participation arrangements.
- Contribute to research that makes OSPO value visible. Help inform TODO Group and Linux Foundation Research work on OSPO practices and organizational impact through practitioner input, reviews, or, where appropriate, attributed quotes and forewords. Develop your ability to explain how open source management supports security, collaboration, AI readiness, and organizational goals.
- Strengthen your leadership through community work. Practice building consensus across organizations, mentoring peers, and turning member proposals into maintained resources, working groups, and events. Help set priorities with the Project Manager and community while keeping OSPO skills relevant to changing organizational needs.
Event invitations, speaking roles, and research contributions depend on the needs and selection processes of each activity.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for active TODO contributors who are ready to help guide and support the community in the year ahead. Candidates should bring practical experience advancing OSPO practices, keeping OSPO skills relevant to organizational needs, and ensuring open source management has a strong presence in AI governance as organizations adopt agentic AI and engage with AI systems.
We’re seeking contributions across three key areas:
- Strengthen connections across open ecosystems. Build relationships with sister communities such as OpenSSF, AAIF, PyTorch, OpenChain, CNCF, and other open ecosystems to advance and update OSPO skills and the value they bring to organizations.
- Bring practitioner experience into AI governance. Contribute to discussions on AI governance, agentic workflows, open standards, specifications and conformance, and open source AI infrastructure.
- Help turn community priorities into action. Help define priorities with member input and work with the Project Manager and community to maintain resources, support working groups, contribute to events, and mentor members.
The role is a commitment to helping members shape TODO’s direction. Members can propose ideas and changes to guidelines through the OSPO Forum, with the Steering Committee helping those proposals move forward. If the working group and its supporters want to coordinate input on content strategy, we propose jointly endorsing a trial in which they gather ideas, develop recommendations openly, and invite member feedback. The scope would be agreed together and reviewed with participants.
Seats for the 2027 to 2029 Term
Three seats have current terms ending on December 31, 2026:

New terms begin January 1, 2027. Current members are welcome to reapply.
Time Commitment
The Steering Committee meets monthly for a one-hour meeting and typically requires a total commitment of 2 to 4 hours per month.

Timeline
- September 11, 2026: Candidate applications open to any contributor in the TODO Group community, regardless of affiliation.
- October 20, 2026: Applications close and candidate information is shared.
- October 21 to November 20, 2026: General Member voting, limited to primary contacts of TODO Group General Members.
- November 22, 2026: Elected members are announced.
- December 1, 2026: Appointed members are confirmed by the current Steering Committee.
- December 10, 2026: New Steering Committee member onboarding begins.
- January 1, 2027: New Steering Committee terms begin.
