We are thrilled to announce that CURIOSS has joined the TODO Group as a new OSPO Associate. CURIOSS is a community of individuals working in University and Research Institute Open Source Program Offices. This collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening the bond between academic and enterprise open source engagements and strategic value.
Shared Strategic Goals
This collaboration between CURIOSS and the TODO Group aims to strengthen the bond between academia and industry by:
- Facilitating Knowledge Exchange: Promoting the flow of information, network, and learning between the TODO and CURIOSS communities, enriching both with diverse perspectives and expertise
- Fostering Collaboration at Events: Organizing joint activities at LF events, enabling networking for academia-industry gatherings. For example, Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions like the one held at OSSummit Europe 2024 in the OSPOCon track brought together academic and enterprise OSPOs from CURIOSS and TODO members.
- Developing Resources: Creating and sharing materials that help bridge the gap between academia / research institutions OSPOs and corporate OSPOs
- Advocacy on Enterprise-Academic Collaborations: Highlighting successful partnerships between universities, research institutions, and companies. Creating spaces for joint projects and discussions that bridge the gap between academic and corporate open source efforts
To achieve these goals, both communities will continue working together or start new key initiatives outlined below.
Key Initiatives
Below is a list of ongoing initiatives where CURIOSS and the TODO Group can focus their efforts to achieve shared strategic goals. Some of these efforts are already underway:
- OSPOlogyLive Workshops: CURIOSS representatives are currently part of the organizing team for the OSPOlogyLive EU series and are participating in the OSPOlogyLive Amsterdam 2025 program. This new OSPOlogyLive Workshop is intended for public administration, academia, and companies across Europe to help organizations navigate open source management, strategy, and Open Source Program Office (OSPO) operations. See more details here.
- OSPOCon BoF on Industry and Academia Partnerships: Building on discussions from the past Birds of a Feather (BoF) session at OSSummit Europe in 2024 on academic-enterprise partnerships, both communities plan to continue exploring academic-enterprise partnerships at the 2025 OSSummit’s OSPOCon tracks. This initiative aims to bring together representatives from academic and enterprise OSPOs to address challenges, foster collaboration, and develop actionable strategies for strengthening ties between academia and industry in the open source ecosystem.
- OSPO Book Chapter about Academic OSPOs: Inspired by the work of the CHAOSS OSPO Metrics Working Group, which contributed a chapter titled “Measuring and Communicating Impact by your OSPO"chapter in the OSPO Book, TODO welcomes CURIOSS representatives to contribute to a CURIOSS-powered chapter in the OSPO Book, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by academic OSPOs.
